Baby Leihani's arrival and post partum support for mama Lianna

Dedham, MA

Story

We are creating a supportive community for my upcoming delivery and recover, by means of organizing meals as we navigate a postpartum recovery via cesarean delivery. I have had quite the pregnancy journey. The pregnancy was considered high risk from the beginning as I had complicated pregnancies in the past. My age became another factor of consideration. Along this journey, I had received at 13 weeks a screen positive that I was having a girl with a very high possibility of down syndrome. From their my team of Drs. Had me go to Boston children's hospital for an echo cardiogram back in June, at 20 weeks pregnant. I learned that my baby girl had an atrioventricular canal defect of the heart. This means that the baby has 2 holes in her heart that will require open heart surgery when the baby is between 2 and 4 months old. There has been no rest in sight for this momma as I have been very closely monitored by the doctors with twice weekly appointments to follow the baby and her growth. Baby girl is also growing on the small side, and will inevitably require nicu care longer than I will be at the hospital after her delivery and recovery. Financial times are a constant struggle for our beautiful strong family of young girls. I have a 9 year old daughter and soon to be 12 year old daughter on the spectrum. The things my family will need the most postpartum will be meals delivered to home keep and the girls nourished. Possibly uber or lyft gift certificates to make it back and forth daily to the hospital to be with my baby girl. It's foreseeable that I will need support for the next several months. Iwill be welcoming home a baby girl which will need special care and biweekly appointments to Boston Children's to closely monitor my newborn daughter's heart leading up to surgery. Let us ease the household burdens so the only focus I need to have is on caring for my newborn and girls at home.
