Damon Young had a "routine" ACDF with corpectomy (cervical fusion) for left sided pain on 3/31/2022. At the end of the surgery, the surgeon accidentally cut his artery, which caused two massive strokes; one in Damon's brain stem and one in his cerebellum. He then had nearly fatal brain swelling, for which he had to have the back of his skull removed. He came back from surgery in a coma which lasted two weeks, during which time he developed pneumonia, an empyema, and hydropneumothorax in his left lung requiring three chest tubes. He had been on life support via ventiliator and fed through a PEG (stomach) tube the entire time. He had a tracheostomy performed and had to undergo a VATS decortication on the left lung, which was a four hour long procedure where he was positioned almost upside down for four hours straight. He then suffered from sepsis and septic shock and finally stabilized after receiving multiple strong IV antibiotics. He has been on the ventilator the entire time. Now he has been transferred to long term acute care at Windy Hill Hospital and their visiting hours a 9 AM to 8 PM but Jasmine does not leave the house until 6:30 pm most days due to running over at work. The hospital is over 30 minutes away so if she cooks dinner for the children, there will be essentially no time for her to spend with Damon Mon-Thur. So we are asking the community to help with dinners for the children (13 year old Ethan and 9 year old Piper) from Monday to Thursday so Jasmine may visit Damon and know the children will have healthy meals for dinner.
