Support for Debbie

Vacaville, CA

Story

As you all know Debbie was diagnosed with Parkinson's over 7 years ago it has been a long road, she had DBS (deep brain stimulation surgery) back in February 2024 which was pretty major. Before this she suffered dystonia pretty much every day sometimes lasting 2 or more hours, this was heartbreaking for me watching her deal with this. The surgery has definitely helped with this but it has caused her other things. Speech is hard and painful for her a lot of the time which makes communication hard and she feels even more isolated. She also gets dyskinesia (involuntary muscle movements) and stiffness which sometimes affects her walking among other things. Her team of doctors are still working on getting the stimulation right which sometimes can take up to a year. So we are hoping this can only get better and she won't need more surgery. Debbie is not very good at reaching out for help yet back before this, she was the first person to help others. Scott is around a lot, but as you all know, not the biggest talker and planner. We are leaving here tomorrow to go home and Miles left for bootcamp yesterday. I would feel better knowing we had some system in place where Debbie can see what to expect for the day. So even just a quick visit, or go out for lunch or pedicure, gym, grocery store etc. . She is covered for overnights when Scott is gone and house cleaning etc but really just needs to not be sitting around in her head all day, especially when she can't drive or get out (this isn't every day). I created this Calendar so people can sign up for things and see what others are doing, and not everyone turn up at once. Will take any even if it is just a little time you have. Thank you so much for everything. Love to you all Ruth
