Land of Oz/DONATE TO KEEP HER OPEN/Let's Help Keep the Lights On

Rhinebeck, NY

Story

The Land of Oz is a community treasure, now imperiled by the economic fallout of COVID-19. For all the times Elena has thrown in for our kids and the things we care about - let's throw in for her. (I will note that I had to beg Elena to let me build this page; she worried about the stress that so many are under, for the people she knows who have died of Coronavirus - she was hesitant.) Fortunately, I won. PLEASE MAKE ANY DONATION YOU ARE ABLE USING THE PAYPAL PORTAL ON THE RIGHT NAVIGATION BAR. ALL DONATIONS WILL BE USED TO KEEP THE STORE OPEN UNTIL THE NEW NORMAL GRADUALLY AND RESPONSIBLY HAPPENS. We all know and love Elena and her vision to curate a store filled with quality toys. It's straight-up magic in there, making me wax nostalgic. (Remember walking into a real toy store as a child and the wonder? The games, the toys, the slinkies - not even to mention the hair salon downstairs.) How many times have (ahem) certain of us been saved by the birthday box - a stroke-of-genius way for kids to decide what they themselves want for their birthday - creating a kid registry sparing a parent the stress of having to guess at what another child wants - on the way to the party? (Guilty.) Those of us who know Elena, know she is among the first to donate to any local or local kid cause. When COVID-19 hit, and things went sideways overnight, Elena immediately donated to the fundraiser to support the frontline medical personnel. Donations to Astor Home were made when she had only just recently opened, our school programs - examples too numerous to mention here.

Special Notes

This is a call to action. COVID-19 won't last forever and the tragic losses it leaves have permanently changed us. Those lost are forever in our hearts. There will be much to unpack. So too, will we remember how we coalesced as a community to reflect the best of small-town values; how we did all we could to help one another. This is not the place to debate political responses, either macro or micro. The margins of small businesses are small. In a sudden and calamitous crisis, there is no time to "be creative." No one can build an online store overnight while simultaneously managing a curbside pick-up/delivery service with no employees - all while overseeing surprise homeschool. Please donate using the PayPal icon on the right navigation bar. The question at hand is simple: when the pandemic is over, what do you want Rhinebeck to look like?
