Story
PIVOT An Unfortunate Update on Mom Pivot, is our mantra these days as the world throws us knuckle balls. We had a lot of hope during mom’s chemo and radiation and she did respond well; however, the lung cancer did metastasize and lodge itself into her brain (called metastatic brain cancer). It’s a thing, but was unexpected and surprising. Just a couple weeks ago her scans showed nothing. The oncologist was unable to give us a time frame as at this stage different people leave this world on their own schedule. Could be a few weeks. Could be a few months. On Friday night, I stopped by after work to put eyes on them, and she was pale and panting. She was taken by ambulance where we discovered innumerable brain lesions and pneumonia. It is advanced stage 4 and aggressive. Her brain swelling is currently controlled and she is comfortable. We are going home as soon as the home can be properly set up. I will continue to update publicly as alerting all the people individually is very difficult. Forgive us if we miss any person with individual update. She is not interested in her phone, so please avoiding contacting it. You may contact Dad, Karla, Kathy, or I. She sometimes feels like talking and sometimes does not. As we pivot, please extend grace. Mom has expressed her desire for no treatment, and the family is supportive. That is the decision. We are setting up hospice starting today, and are pivoting to get her home where she can get in her jammies, snuggle with her dog, hold hands with Papa, and stream shows and movies. Pivot!
