Story

* Update for Feb 21, 2023 Over recent months Joyce has begun experiencing some increased levels of confusion as well as some slight memory issues. These issues rose to the level of meeting with her doctors to explore what might be happening. A CT showed that there were no signs of neurological issues, which led her doctors to want to look at her spinal fluid to ensure that her Leukemia had not spread into her CSF. They finally were able to test her spinal fluid on 2/15. On Friday, Feb 17th she received a call from her Oncologist with the recommendation that she go to the hospital immediately. Unfortunately the Leukemia has spread into her spinal fluid, and the number of Leukemia cells in that fluid was extremely high…to the point of causing her CSF to not flow as well as it should and putting her at risk for a stroke and/or other complications. Her doctor gave her 2 options. She could stop any form of treatment - which would likely mean she has a couple weeks left with us. The other option was to begin a series of chemo treatments directly into her CSF. The hope is that these treatments will lower the number of Leukemia cells in her spinal fluid and extend the amount of time she has to love on her grandkids. They spent the weekend attempting to do a treatment and were finally able to successfully do the first one on Monday. Now we wait to see how effective this new chemo regiment will be, and we wait for her to have the chance to transition back home. We do not know what the days ahead will look like, or what this treatment plan will buy her in terms of time. For now we are grateful for each good day, and praying that God would work through miracle and medicine to give her additional time with us. We will update as there is new information to share, and will use this site as there are needs or ways for people to support and care for her in this season. Current needs are listed below, and will fluctuate as we learn more about appointments, labs, and her good and bad days. Please feel free to check with Cory, Cami, or Jamey if you have questions. Thanks for reading, for caring and for supporting Joyce and our fam!
