Having married in September and parenting a beautiful 11 year-old daughter, Debbie and Aniefon have had a whirlwind of a year. In March, their 8yr old fur-baby was diagnosed with cancer and with that test they thought they had seen the worst their first year of marriage had in store. Unfortunately, that was not to be. Following an appointment In May to look at a lump in her breast, Debbie was given a diagnosis of stage 1 breast cancer in early June. Since the diagnosis, Debbie and Aniefon have seen many specialists, run many tests and thoroughly examined the pros and cons of every treatment option offered. After weighing all the choices, it has been decided to move forward with a double mastectomy. Moving forward, the procedure, follow-up appointments and recovery will last at least 2 months, with Debbie unable to work during that time. Additionally, she will be severely limited with her physical activities and regular activities of daily living.  As you can imagine, a cancer diagnosis is hard as it affects not only the individual but also their community. Friends and family have been asking how they can help and what they can do. In order to facilitate community support in such a way that will not create extra stress for the Soto/Ekanem families during this very difficult time, this page has been created to provide an outlet for friends and family to help in a way that is comfortable and convenient to them. Debbie and Aniefon are incredibly grateful for the love and support shown thus far and ask that you keep them in your prayers.
