Support for the Feola-Mahar Family

Keene, NH

Story

12/16/2019 Hello Friends; It has been requested that we open up meals for those who want to offer support through the holidays. Though we were reluctant to ask at this time, we will not refuse help either. Dinners will go up today in some fashion. We are not expecting or needing daily meals and currently feed myself, Melinda, Jessica, Frankie and Brian most nights. Melinda is 2/3 through her first hormone therapy regime and is in a lot of pain currently. We are hoping to see an oncologist this week to address a possible broken rib and relating pain. We hope to have a clearer prognosis when we see the primary oncologist on 12/31/2019. Thank you everyone for the continued support. I will send this out to many just as an update. If you wish to make a meal thank you but please do not feel obligated. Some who receive this will not even be in this area. Love and light this holiday season. 10/24/2019 We are hanging in there sort of! 😁 The waiting for the next step has been stressful for all of us. We are opening up dinners again for 3 times a week as Melinda is still not well enough to cook. There are only 4 of us eating most days. We may also need childcare for after school when the monthly trips to Lebanon start. Also looking for recommendations for house cleaners and a carpenter for a future project involving a handicap ramp. ❤❤❤❤❤ 10/15/19 Thank you everyone for all the delicious meals. We are going it alone for awhile. I'm going to try hard to like to cook again! Thank you Diane Abbate, Shelley Goerke, Kathy Profazier, Bonnie Echavarria, Robert Schultz, Mark Gempler, Lisa Murphy, Rosemary Gianno, Polly Morris, Jenna Spear, and everyone else for helping to make life easier for the last 5 weeks. Melinda's pain is decreasing slowly and fatigue continues to be an issue. My right foot is better and my knees will need to hang in there awhile longer. Other than occasional childcare we should be good for a few weeks. ♥♥ 10/8/2019 Melinda finished radiation, that targeted her damaged 6th rib, last Friday. She is still in a lot of pain. Right now we are in a holding pattern. 3 weeks to recoup from radiation before hormone therapy begins. Thank you everyone for your continued support. ❤❤❤❤ FYI, I will have a procedure done on my right foot this Friday intended to decrease pain. Today I got my referral to the knee replacement doc in Keene. Onward we go..... 9/29/2019 Shoutouts A special thank to our incredible niece Amber for spending time with Jessica and Brian when we are out to appointments and last night while we were over to a friend's house for dinner. Thank you to our sister Lisa Mahar for attending the big appointments with us and driving to Lebanon when I was unable to. Thank you to everyone who has brought us meals, snacks, desserts and love including; Polly Morris, Silverstein-Belden family, Spear-O'Mara family, Diana Sebert, the Thatcher family, Linda Bevan, Sue & Bill Hay, Shelley Goerke, Carrie & RJ Bergeron, Lisa Mahar, Deb Morris, Alison Woods-Baker and Christina & Steve Hamel! We are so blessed. Thank you also to our brother Ferdinand Feola for purchasing a mobility scooter for us that has allowed me to "walk" to school with Brian until I have knee surgery and will be available for Melinda as needed. Thank you too to Michael Woods, an old friend who donated some money to us that I will be using to purchase CBD products and essential oils for Melinda's use. 9/27/19 Fickle me, don't like new page for organizing so keeping this page. Sorry for confusion. You can delete LivingWith, Melinda will try that app for herself. Please read updates and thank you for all the support! 9/24/19 update Radiation on the ribs will start this week. Should only be 5 treatments. Still a lot up in the air but the doctor feels that we are looking most likely at years, not months at this point. God bless. 9/21/19 update The meals have been wonderful. Michael is now in his apartment and Melinda is struggling with some foods due to radiation. Meals for 4 will work at this point. Tuesday wr head to Lebanon to see the primary oncologist and hopefully learn what the plan will be when radiation ends this week. Love to all. ❤❤❤❤ God bless. 9/12/2019 We are extending the meals to 5 weeks at this time because fatigue was more of an issue than we realized before and getting worse. Thank you everyone. The kids are loving the food and we are looking back and realizing things have been sliding in our household for awhile with Melinda's illness and my osteo-arthritis. I am getting an injection in my right foot next week and also hope to have at least one knee replacement schedule by next week. God bless you all. Melinda Feola-Mahar, 8 years removed from breast cancer has been diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer in her spine, ribs and lungs. Radiation began yesterday, Friday Sept. 6, 2 days after the diagnosis. We have no idea how the disease will progress. Right now we are looking for meals to cover 3 weeks of radiation. All 4 of the Feola-Mahar children are still living at home. Michael 23 hopes to have an apartment soon. Jess 20 needs supervised housing so will live at home for now. Frankie 18 is in his senior year of high school and Brian 5 is in kindergarten at Symonds School.

Special Notes

No special meal requests except to note that family meals are usually meat and starch with a side vegetable. Casseroles and pasta dishes are great. Because we have picky vegetable eaters unless a salad is planned we will take care of side vegetables. With all that said we are open to all types of meals, vegetarian as well. We are so grateful for the outpouring of love from family, friends and the UCC Keene.
