Story
Memphis Moves Mountains was recommended by an amazing social worker at UNM Children's Hospital, where Memphis is currently being treated. Memphis underwent a biopsy on August 4, 2024. He had been experiencing left leg pain since February 2024. X-rays at that time showed two cysts, one in his femur, one in his tibia (fractured). An MRI was done at that time, that showed no serious concerns and we were told they would heal. Thankfully, the orthopedic specialist scheduled a 3 month follow up, at which point a tumor in his tibia was found. It had grown significantly. We received the results of his biopsy on August 12, 2024, which showed the osteocarcoma in his tibia. He's had the following scans/tests done: ▪︎CT Scan - no signs of cancer in lungs ▪︎Echocardiogram - heart is strong ▪︎Vascular ultrasound - no blood clots ▪︎Blood work - labs are normal ▪︎Scheduled PET scan 8/15/24 Memphis is scheduled to have surgery 8/15/24 to place a port in his neck/chest. He is set to begin his first round of chemotherapy 8/15/24, after his port is placed. His treatment will last 11 weeks. At the end of 11 weeks, his team will determine if they are able to conduct another surgery to remove the osteocarcoma. He will then continue chemotherapy for 20 more weeks. Memphis has handled these last few days with courage and bravery. He said he is nervous and angry, but not scared. He knows he will beat this and is determined to become an anesthesiologist after college. He knows he has so much love and support. We are so incredibly thankful for our family, friends, and community.
