Vivan’s Heart Transplant Journey

Enumclaw, WA

Story

For those of you who haven’t had the privilege of meeting Vivan we’d like to tell you a bit about her. Vivan is a talented artist, caring friend and light to all those she meets. She is the type of person who enters a room and draws everyone around her to her. She was born with two heart defects, but never let that stop her. Two days before her 12th Birthday she collapsed at school and went into sudden cardiac arrest. Her heart stopped for nearly 3 minutes before her school nurse and teachers were able to begin cpr and shock her with an external defibrillator and restart her heart. After being life flighted to Seattle children’s hospital she woke from a coma on her 12th Birthday and underwent surgery to place both an internal defibrillator and pacemaker. Vivan is a fighter and has spent the last 1.5 years continuing to fight. Recently we learned that her heart is in failure and beginning to negatively impact her lungs. Her cardiac team has decided now is the time to place her on the heart transplant list. This journey is scary and will most likely take time. Any support you can give to ease our burden or bring a smile to her face while we prepare and wait for the gift of life would be truly appreciated.

Special Notes

Rebecca and family do not want visitors at this time due to Vivian’s health. If you’re dropping off a meal you can leave it on the porch. Vivan has a younger sister, Felicity, whose life has been changed by this crisis too. I think remembering her when we drop off gifts would be kind. Also, father of Vivan and Rebecca’s dear husband, Josh, has had serious health problems this past year requiring hospitalization and surgery. This family has been through a lot of pain, stress and trauma. Any little thing you do for them will help them know they are not alone and their community cares for them deeply!
