My Chiari Malformation Surgery

Wichita, KS

Story

Hey everyone! A bit of history about what's going on. For years I had issues with swallowing, balance, speaking, numbers. Worst of all I had horrible head pains I can't even describe every time I sneeze, cough, bent over, existed in any kind of physical capacity. My Dr kept telling me it was just stress headaches but finally after three years he agreed to send me to a neurologist where I was diagnosed with my Chiari malformation type 1. Essentially what's happening to me is my skull is too small for my brain. My cerebellum is therefore getting pushed down my spinal column which is also crushing my spinal cord which is causing issues with everything I mentioned above including being able to swallow properly. On August 5th I'm going to have a surgery that will remove my C1 and possibly C2, 2 centimeters of the base of my skull, and she will cut open my spinal fluid sack and patch it together but allow it to expand a little bit so my spinal fluid can flow better as well.
