WE LOVE APRIL DUGGINS

Tacoma, WA

Story

April Duggins shows up. She's the one who lays healing hands on us to massage our broken bodies back to wellness, brings food bedside to recovering postpartum people, doesn't listen when you say you don't need help. It's time for us to show up for her. She hates asking for help, but she needs us now. After a long and painful struggle with ITP, in which her platelets basically consume themselves and threaten her with hemorrhage as a result of even minor cuts, she's undergoing spleen and uterus removal to hopefully evict the worst offenders. You probably haven't even known she's been sick for years, because she has done the damn thing without so much as a public grimace. Her uterus tries to kill her every month, she ends up in the emergency room from a minor knife slip, but she still manages to show up for the community - bringing food and cash to unhoused people, raising bombass world-changing kids without a stitch of help and runs her business like a boss. The problem with being the boss is that you have no backup. So, now, to give herself any quality of life back, and potentially even save herself from risk of death - she needs this surgery. And with that comes 8 weeks of being unable to be the boss. She'll be physically unable to work or even make food for her phenomenal kiddos. She's self-employed, so taking up to 2 months off is an enormous hardship. She won't ask you for help, but I will. April Duggins shows up. Now it's time for us to show up for her. Please donate and share to her GoFundMe, show up to keep her company, send UberEats or grocery money, stop by with a meal, prepay for massages, drop your favorite books by for her to read. Let's show this amazing human how much we love her.

Special Notes

Because April is battling autoimmune issues, it is super important no one feeling unwell stops by, and no matter what, please use solid handwashing protocols. Do check in with her for scheduling, but companionship is much appreciated - shoot her a text, email or fb message and drop by for hangout, watch a movie, have a chat, and bring a smile to her while she's stuck in bed. Family allergies are gluten (celiac, please be mindful of cross-contamination), chicken eggs, all beans and lentils. If you would like to provide a meal but not sure how to work around the allergies, UberEats/DoorDash gift cards would be much appreciated. Also, I (Elizabeth) will be helping cook for April, so you are welcome to shoot money to my PayPal to cover groceries (paypal [email protected] with a note for April)
