Love for Zamir

Rochester, MN

Story

12 year old Zamir was the victim of a hit and run while riding his bike on Good Friday (4/7/23)! He and his mama were immediately airlifted to Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota from Moorehead, MN on April 7th. The driver didn’t stop at first and drug his body and bike through the intersection. Bystanders say they heard him screaming for his life and begging her to stop the vehicle. When she did get out of her vehicle and seen him crushed beneath her truck she went on to cuss little Zamir out and then sped off and left him laying there never even calling for help! He still has a long road of recovery ahead of him. They are expecting many more weeks of care and recovery here at Mayo and are 320 miles away from everyone they love and know! His injuries consisted of a broken right ankle, tibia and fibula, fractured left shoulder, broken pelvis (front and back); fractured left knee; crushed urethra, lacerations to his liver and bladder, and half of his right heel was gone and is in the process of being reconstructed with muscle, tissue, and skin from his back and thighs. He cannot move from a sitting position and even laying back is excruciating. He has become so anxious from all of the pain and trauma he has experienced and he is finding it so hard to stay positive and to even rest as they are constantly have to dress and redress his wounds (which are very gory and so hard for him to even look at let alone suffer from). He is such a sweeeeeet, silly, fun young man and we are soooo eager to do everything in our power to help him stay hopeful, strong, and nourished! His mom is a single parent and with him LITERALLY 24/7 since the accident. They are 5 + hours from everyone they know and we'd love to have our community help fill in the gaps! Mom has 4 other children at home she is relying on friends and family there to care for. She has sooo much to manage and this could be one less thing for her to worry herself with. She has no vehicle here as they were airlifted into Rochester so getting to and from the store or even restaurants is already difficult but now his anxiousness makes it almost impossible for mom to leave his side. Currently the hospital food is just not cutting it! Nourishing his body is so crucial for his recovery and we are hoping to see our community fill in the gaps! https://www.valleynewslive.com/2023/04/08/juvenile-struck-hit-and-run-accident-friday-evening/?fbclid=IwAR3cZ8fxQL64HaSy7D3RPzZT2hishjd0-vJ9x17DFdGHfsQu9JbFWv_Bz5k https://www.valleynewslive.com/2023/04/11/moorhead-mom-speaks-out-after-sons-hit-and-run/?fbclid=IwAR1WulcRbgW0qBWddtdc_7zuYLnXRx-K3DGHFuz0tt5t2TYDriXfVpBCZ_I

Special Notes

Currently they need small meals and snacks for the two of them!! Things they can finish in one or two sittings as its a small fridge in the hospital room. Take out or meals can be delivered to the St. Mary's Circle drive entrance on 14th st. You just need to leave it with a staff member in the entrance and let them know you are dropping off food for a patient and his name is Zamir Lamar who is on 2 francis in pediatrics. They will put it in a safe place and someone from his floor will come and bring it up to them! Zamir enjoys all kinds of food and does enjoy spicy (mom not so much spicy!)! If possible for sandwiches, tacos, and burger type food to have the toppings on the side or just meat and cheese for him! Mom enjoys all veggies and seasonings! He does enjoy chips, snacks, pickles, and treats but isn't a fan of chocolate!
