Wolverine Community- We need your help! As you may already know, one of our very own Worcester Wolverines and her family are facing an incredibly difficult time. Lyra, a 6 year old first grader here at Worcester Central School, has recently been diagnosed with Stage 4 Wilms Cancer. What started out as a quick trip to the ER with her Mom, Shawna, turned into being immediately sent to Albany Med. There, doctors found masses within various parts of her body. Lyra underwent more testing to determine the best course of treatment. Since then, Lyra has received her “SuperHero Badge” (a port placed under her skin) and started aggressive chemotherapy. She is in good spirits and ready to fight the bad cancer cells! If you know Lyra, then you know she is giving it her all with her sassy attitude and big smile! Shawna has two other young children— ages 5 and 9 months old. She is completely unable to work right now, as she needs to be with Lyra during her treatments at Albany Med, while her other two children are at home with their Stepdad. The emotional and financial strain is overwhelming, and the family is doing everything they can to support Lyra through this fight. At this time, the family is in need of MEALS, as well as GIFT CARDS that can be used for travel expenses, everyday items, and overall support for Lyra during this difficult time. Anything is appreciated— donations, shares, prayers, or any support you can offer. Your kindness and generosity mean the world to the family as we all rally around Lyra. #TeamLyra Below you will find a meal train calendar. At this time, the family feels that meal deliveries on Tuesdays and Thursdays will be the best option for them. There are no special requests in terms of types of foods, other than Shawna saying, “The healthier, the better!” All meals can be delivered to Lyra’s Grandmother, Barb, who will help facilitate the meal distribution. Let’s keep this family fed and give them one less thing to worry about!
