Supporting Steph Through House Displacement & Illness

W
Story

Two weeks ago, a truck ran into Steph's house causing near catastrophic damage and spreading asbestos everywhere. She, Nick, Merry, and Pippin were barred from entering with zero notice, having to leave everything behind — meds, clothes, and food included. They could be displaced for six months or more. The stress and upfront costs are enormous, so much so that Steph rushed to Urgent Care and was diagnosed with shingles this weekend. ($4k+ to retain a lawyer, billable hours that must be purchased in $2k increments, $500 for the structural engineering assessment, another $4k+ for the engineer's actual services, $4k+ security deposit for the short-term rental they're moving into, plus the costs of clothes, food, toiletries, etc). As if that isn't enough, this happened just six weeks after a very scary and expensive surgery to remove her cat Pippin's leg and half his pelvis after a cancer diagnosis. As of this week, Pip is having seizures. The vet wants to do an MRI (confirmed $6k cost) to see if the cancer has spread to his brain. All of that to say, our girl is going THROUGH it. Steph takes such good care of everyone around her. She is generous and selfless, and deserves so much more than the nightmare she is living through. Let's rally around her, feed her, and try to ease some of the financial burden. How to help: - sign up for the meal train! (see notes in "messages" below) - donate a gift card - make a donation (Venmo, GoFundMe on its way) - attend the fundraiser event (details TBD!) when that happens

Special Notes

Until they get out of the extended stay hotel and into a rental, they're pretty limited with what they can cook/reheat. (Not much cookware for the stove, no oven, just a microwave.) RE: MEAL TRAIN She's moving from the hotel (south, almost in Littleton) to an apartment on Friday the 9th. Until that happens, gift cards for ordering delivery are best! Once she's in the new place, she will have to attend a literal orientation about her new apartment, so she doesn't have details on how delivery works yet. Meaning, as of 10/9, the best way to help food-wise is with an in-person meal drop offs or gift cards for Uber eats, etc.
