Supporting Nahomie’s Fight with Cancer

W
Story

Help Nahomie Continue Her Fight Against Stage IV Cancer Two years ago, at just 34 years old, Nahomie received news that would forever change her life and the lives of everyone who loves her: she was diagnosed with Stage IV colon cancer. Since then, Nahomie has endured more than anyone should have to. Her cancer has metastasized to her liver, lungs, and brain, and throughout every surgery, treatment, hospital stay, setback, and difficult day, she has continued to fight. But Nahomie isn't just a cancer patient. She is a daughter, a sister, a friend, and most importantly, a devoted mother to a beautiful little boy who will be turning 5 years old this November. He is her whole world and one of the biggest reasons she continues to fight so incredibly hard. Recently, our family received another devastating diagnosis. Nahomie's cancer has progressed to leptomeningeal disease (LMD), also known as leptomeningeal metastasis. LMD is a rare and very serious complication of advanced cancer that occurs when cancer cells spread to the leptomeninges, the thin layers of tissue surrounding the brain and spinal cord, and into the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) that circulates around them. Because the cerebrospinal fluid travels throughout the brain and spinal cord, LMD can affect many different areas of the nervous system and can be extremely difficult to treat. Despite everything she has faced, Nahomie is still here, and she is still fighting. And we want to give her every possible opportunity to continue that fight. For the past two years, Nahomie has been unable to work because of her illness and the demands of her treatments. She has now also lost her health insurance, making an already unimaginable situation even more difficult. Accessing the treatment and care she desperately needs has become increasingly challenging, while everyday financial responsibilities have not stopped. Our family has done everything we can to support her, but we have reached a point where we need help. We are humbly asking our family, friends, community, and anyone touched by Nahomie's story to help us raise funds to support her during this incredibly difficult time. Donations will help with medical treatments and procedures, medications, specialist appointments, hospital expenses, insurance and healthcare costs, transportation and travel for treatment, household bills and living expenses, childcare and needs for her son, and other unexpected expenses related to her ongoing care. Most importantly, we want Nahomie to be able to focus her energy on what matters most right now: her treatment, her comfort, her son, and continuing to fight. We don't want financial hardship to be another battle she has to carry on top of everything she is already facing. If you are able to donate, no amount is too small. Every contribution will make a difference for Nahomie and her son. If you aren't able to donate financially, we completely understand. Sharing this fundraiser, keeping Nahomie in your prayers, and helping her story reach others would mean just as much to our family. Nahomie has fought courageously for the past two years, and we are determined to continue standing beside her every step of the way. We are not giving up hope. We are not giving up on her.
