Statement from Brittany and David Edwards: The news about her leukemia diagnosis wasn’t easy, but God has shown up and reminded us how many blessings we have in our lives ❤️ We know thank you will never be enough to actually show every single person who has been there in our corner, but thank you is all we have to show the gratitude and grace we’ve been shown over the past 3 weeks. The story behind Parker’s diagnosis: It was actually a couple of things that led up to it. For a couple of weeks in the beginning of August she was waking up crying saying her legs hurt but was able to be soothed back to sleep and honestly we just thought they were growing pains. We eventually took her to priority care because she kept saying her legs hurt but showed no other symptoms. Priority care did a leg test to check for potential fractures, nothing. Towards the end of August she was walking differently and her legs started to look visibly different (skinny, knobby knees) During her birthday party on September 5, she laid in my lap the entire day and by the evening was very lethargic and started screaming in pain her back hurt, plus her pee was very dark and she still was complaining her legs hurt. We ended up taking her to the ER that night and they said she was constipated and had a slightly enlarged spleen. Fast forward a couple more days she had a 102 fever, I took her in to her primary DR. On September 8th. They suggested more blood work (which we never have received the results from the er trip) or take her to Riley. At this point she couldn’t walk at all, I had to carry her to use the bathroom and I used a cart to take her everywhere. After about a day David and I finally decided to take her to Peyton Manning. We never thought we’d see our baby’s name on a cancer awareness shirt, to have to remember a 5 digit code to get into a locked area of a hospital, to know which elevator door closes fastest, to learn so many side affects about different medications and chemo treatments, or to get use to seeing your baby laying in a hospital bed with tubes everywhere. The reason for the story; advocate for your kids. She knew something was wrong, and you are their voice when something isn’t right. Our 6 year old was a healthy happy kid and within a matter of a month, she couldn’t walk. Again, thank you, to every single person who has thought about, prayed, donated, stepped up when our family needed it. We appreciate you guys so so so much 🧡
