Ayasha was born with an underdeveloped lung, a condition that went undiagnosed until she was 19 years old. The defect—an absence of her right pulmonary artery—led to recurrent bleeding in her lung, something she endured for many years before receiving answers. Following her diagnosis, Ayasha underwent numerous interventional radiology procedures and bronchoscopies in an effort to embolize and coil the source of the bleeding. When these interventions were no longer effective, the remaining option was to consider removal of her right lung. On December 17, Ayasha underwent surgery to fully remove her right lung. Recovery has been a journey. While initial healing may take up to eight weeks before she can return to a sense of normalcy, full recovery is expected to take up to a year.
