If you know Sonia and Cristian, you know they are the kind of people who are always the first to show up for others. They love big, serve generously, and are always willing to lend a helping hand. Whether it's offering support, praying for someone in need, or simply making people feel loved, they pour so much into those around them. Now it's our turn to surround them with that same love and support. On July 7, Sonia and Cristian welcomed their beautiful daughter, Mia, into the world much earlier than anyone anticipated. Due to a sudden medical emergency affecting both Sonia and baby Mia, she was delivered at just 24 weeks gestation, weighing only 1 pound, 8 ounces. Though she is incredibly tiny, Mia is already proving to be a little warrior. She is currently receiving support with a CPAP in the NICU and is fighting a little stronger every day. Sonia is also recovering from the emergency delivery while continuing to face challenges with her kidneys. Waiting to meet their newest sister are Melanie, who is 8 years old and excited to begin 3rd grade this fall, and Kaida, their sweet toddler. Like so many NICU families, they're learning to balance hospital visits, recovery, work, and caring for two little girls at home while cheering Mia on every step of the way. Because of Mia's unexpected early arrival, Sonia and Cristian will both need to take time away from work so they can be by Mia's side while also caring for their family at home. The weeks—and likely months—ahead will be filled with NICU visits, recovery, and adjusting to a new normal they never expected. Many of you have already asked how you can help.
