Help Us Save Our Home

Kingsport, TN

Story

Last month our lives changed in the hardest way imaginable. My boyfriend’s mother passed away unexpectedly, and we were the ones who found her on the living room floor of the home we all shared together. The grief of losing her is still very fresh, and every day without her has been incredibly difficult. This house was her home and the only home my boyfriend has ever really known. We are still living here and trying to keep things together the best we can. Recently, when we went to pay this year’s land taxes, we learned something we didn’t know before — there were several previous years of unpaid property taxes. Because of that, the home is now at risk, and we could lose it if the balance isn’t paid. The total amount owed is around $3,000. Right now we are doing everything we can to get by. I clean houses when I can find the work, and my boyfriend works doing DoorDash deliveries. It helps with basic needs, but it’s been very hard to catch up on something this large while also grieving and trying to stabilize our situation. We are also currently living without electricity. To restore power we would need to pay about a $350 deposit, or we are hoping to find a way to purchase another generator to help us get by in the meantime. Our biggest priority is saving this home and paying the past due land taxes, so we don’t lose the place that meant so much to his mother and holds so many memories for our family. Any help, no matter how small, would mean more than we can express. Even sharing this fundraiser helps us more than you know. Thank you for taking the time to read our story and for any kindness or support you can offer during this difficult time.
