It all started on a Sunday, November 30, 2025. That Sunday at church I heard the ever so familiar story of the Good Samaritan. The pastor encouraged us to welcome inconveniences onto our lives. That evening I was scrolling through Facebook and came upon a post on the Mill creek community page. A lady was posting a video for her friend Jeffrey who needed a kidney. I watched the video and felt moved. He needed a type 0 blood donor which I am. The next morning I shared about the video to Chuck and told him I wanted to look into this further. I asked him “am I crazy for even considering this? Donating a kidney to someone I don’t even know?” He said “No. It’s not crazy. It’s incredibly generous.” Now this is not the first time kidney donation has crossed my mind or been a part of my life in some way. In 2006 I was able to donate my late husband’s organs when he passed away. I remember getting a letter from the recipient of his kidney. The lady had been on dialysis for 10 years waiting for a kidney. What a gift to be able to change someone’s life. And Chuck’s sister was going to need one and without hesitation I told her I would be tested. Unfortunately she lost her battle before we even had a chance to get tested. That week I set up my first screening which was some questions. And the following week I had a blood draw for preliminary screenings. I reached out to the recipient Jeffrey and let him know I was going to go ahead with the screening process. And so the journey began….
