Story

On Sunday, September 7, 2025, our lives changed in an instant. While sleeping, Shannon suffered a sudden seizure that rendered him unconscious for several minutes. The sound and movement woke me up, and by some miracle, I was able to get Audri to call 911 right away. That moment marked the beginning of a whirlwind week in the hospital, one filled with fear, waiting, and prayer. After several tests, doctors discovered an aneurysm and an Arteriovenous Malformation (AVM) in Shannon’s brain. These are both serious conditions that will require multiple procedures to treat. Shannon has been placed on seizure medication, and his medical team has mapped out a plan for several upcoming interventions. The first procedure is scheduled for Tuesday, October 14th, when surgeons will insert coils through a catheter to clot the aneurysm and stop it from growing. That will only be the beginning; he’ll need several more procedures, including major open brain surgery to remove the AVM, all before the end of this year. As you can imagine, this has placed a huge emotional and financial strain on our family. I’m incredibly fortunate to have an understanding boss and coworkers who allow me flexibility to continue working while caring for both Shannon and my mom, whom I’ve been looking after for years. But with Shannon already missing work and with many more days ahead where he won’t be able to, our finances are stretched thin. We’re getting by, but just barely. When the time comes for Shannon’s major surgery, we will need our village, all of you. Our most pressing need will be help with groceries and meals. My salary, along with my mom’s SSI, can cover the main bills, but there’s little left for food, medicine, or gas. If you know Shannon, you know he is the kind of person who gives without hesitation. He’s always the first to offer a hand, the shirt off his back, or his time, even when he’s exhausted. He helps me care for my mom, takes care of his two kids, and still checks in on our friends and relatives to make sure everyone else is okay. Asking for help isn’t something that comes easily to him or to us, but the truth is, we can’t do this alone. The reality of what’s ahead hasn’t fully hit us yet, but we know the coming months will be difficult. We’ve talked to the kids and are doing our best to prepare them for tougher times. If you have the means and it’s in your heart to help, please consider contributing. Everything helps, even the simplicity of prayers for fast healing. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your love, prayers, and support. We are so grateful to have such an incredible community around us.
