MGSH Giving Hope

Safford, AZ

Story

Mt. Graham Safe House, Inc. (MGSH) was formed in 1995 to provide short term emergency housing to victims of domestic violence and their children. The director quickly realized that shelter alone simply wasn’t enough to make a real difference. Advocacy services were quickly added, volunteers repaired donated clothing and with donations from the community the program flourished. In 1998 services for victims of sexual assault were added. Advocates will respond to emergency rooms in the MGSH service area for both victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. In 2007 a fund was established to provide emergency care for pets that in homes with violence. In 2009 kennels will be built on property to allow more pets to be sheltered and stay with their families and be free of abuse. MGSH provides transition in place and rapid rehousing programs, community/mobile advocacy as well as homeless outreach into the community with food and clothing.
