On November 18, 2025, Nino collapsed on a regular morning run with his army squadron. At just 31 years old, he went into cardiac arrest. Upon initial assessment, Nino had a pulse and respiration. However, sometime in the 10 minutes before paramedics arrived, he lost that. He was transported to Madigan Army Medical Center where they performed CPR for 45 minutes and finally got a rhythm. It took several hours to stabilize him because his organs were already showing signs of necrosis (cell death) due to a severe lack of oxygen. Doctors could not give us a prognosis and braced us for the worst. Hours later family arrived to the horror of tubes, needles, beeping machines, and a ventilator giving him breaths in rigid mechanical fashion. Choosing to “walk by faith and not by sight” (2Cor 5:7), eleven of us who’ve loved this boy his whole life encircled his bed, pouring over him songs, prayers, verse and laying of hands until well past normal visiting hours - and God, in his mercy, saw Nino through the night. The next morning was pure celebration and we did it all over again, but this time with more levity and laughter, jokes and stories of Nino. The next day, we did it again. God heard our prayers. Nino was dead for almost an hour and he was brought back to life. Over the next 3 weeks, we had an army of believers praying for healing for 5 cracked ribs, failing kidneys, failing lungs, MRSA, fever spikes, and violent neuro storming. Today, his is off of all live sustaining machines and his body is recovering. We’ve all been part of a miracle. The next step in his recovery is the hardest. He is still in a coma. Nicki is with Amy to help care for her and their one year old son as they pack up their lives and relocate to Palo Alto for rehabilitation at a VA hospital that specializes in traumatic brain injury. During this time, Nicki and Amy need our support. Nicki’s FMLA starts on Jan after which time she will not have an income. She will be looking for work eventually in Palo Alto. In the meantime, I would like to give Amy & Nicki as much support as possible. If you feel called, I appreciate anything you can give. Thank you for your love and support!
