Story
Two weeks ago, Dorothy went to the ER with what was suspected to be a collapsed lung and pneumonia. She was admitted to Kadlec Hospital and diagnosed with: • Sepsis (early stage) • Blood infection (Gram-positive bacteria) • Severe pneumonia • Loculated pleural effusion (pockets of fluid compressing her right lung) • Thrombocytopenia (low platelet count) • Severe dehydration She was first placed in Acute Care and then moved to Stepdown ICU on 5/7/25. She required oxygen, IV antibiotics, fluids, and had a chest tube inserted to drain her lungs. She also began treatments to break up the mucus caused by the pneumonia. A few days later, she was moved to the ICU. Her body was extremely weak, and she couldn’t clear her lungs effectively. The team performed a bronchoscopy to remove mucus and placed her on a ventilator for two days to help expand her lungs. Thankfully, she tolerated the intubation well and was soon extubated. We’re relieved and grateful to share that Dorothy has now been transferred to Life Care Center of Kennewick (Room 306) for the next phase of her recovery: 📍 1508 W. 7th Ave., Kennewick, WA 99336 📞 (509) 586-9185 Visitors are welcome anytime! Dorothy will be here for at least 12 days to finish her intravenous treatments and begin rehab to regain her strength. She wants to express deep gratitude for all the love, prayers, and support. Your encouragement has been a true lifeline. Dorothy also wants to remind everyone: Pneumonia is serious—don’t wait. Go to the doctor. 🥰 The best news? Dorothy and her beloved Buddy are finally back together! He can visit any time, as long as someone helps with pick-up and drop-off. If you’re planning to visit and are willing to bring Buddy, please reach out to Leslie to coordinate. There’s a beautiful enclosed rose garden and gazebo on site where Buddy can run and soak up the sun. Let’s continue to lift Dorothy (Mom/Gramma) in prayer. May she find the strength and spirit to push through this recovery—she is one tough cookie and just needs that extra nudge. 🙏💪❤️
