Barb's diagnosis of pancreatic cancer came as a big surprise to all of us. We are all wanting to help out Barb and the Sechler family as they navigate the challenges of a complex surgery and recovery process. If you'd like to help out, please provide food for 2 adults that follow the pancreatic cancer dietary requirements that we have attached, and fill out the calendar with the day/days you'd like to choose, and have it in disposable containers so she won't need to return dishes. Pancreatic cancer dietary guidelines focus on high-protein, low-fat, and small, frequent meals (5-6 times daily). Prioritize lean proteins (chicken, fish), whole grains, and soft, easily digestible foods while avoiding fried, greasy, or sugary foods to minimize side effects like nausea. Key Dietary Recommendations: Small, Frequent Meals: Eat 5–8 small meals or snacks throughout the day instead of 3 large meals to manage nausea and digestive issues. High-Protein Focus: Include lean protein with every meal to aid cell repair, such as chicken, turkey, fish, eggs, beans, and tofu. Low-Fat Diet: Limit fried, greasy, and high-fat foods (e.g., butter, bacon, full-fat dairy) as they are difficult to digest and can trigger pain. Easy-to-Digest Foods: Choose soft, boiled, or blended foods, such as oatmeal, smoothies, and soups, especially if digestion is difficult. Nutrient-Dense Choices: Incorporate healthy fats like avocados, nuts, and seeds in moderation. Foods to Limit or Avoid: Fried, fatty, and greasy foods. Sugary snacks, desserts, and sweetened beverages. Processed meats (sausage, bacon) and high-fat dairy products. Spicy foods. Alcohol and excessive caffeine. * We are requesting delivery by 3:00pm so they can plan their evening. * Staying and visiting will need to be postponed till Barb is up to it and she appreciates your understanding.
Here is an example of Barb's dietary requirements for the meals: https://pancan.org/facing-pancreatic-cancer/living-with-pancreatic-cancer/diet-and-nutrition/recipes/ They have one request, since we are in the cold and flu season, please be sensitive if you are not feeling well. Even a small cold and really set Barb back. Also, please don't plan to stay and visit at this time. Dropping of the meal will be all that's needed and will be most appreciated.
