Help for little Teresa ( Mass office, Black & Latinos award for service

South EASTON, MA

Story

I met Teresa in Honduras 35 years ago when she was a Franciscan nun in Honduras. She came to the states years later and left the convent. She settled in Brockton where she has become a beacon of joy and hope to so many. She became and still is a fierce social justice advocate and has devoted her life to the poor, the disenfranchised, and immigrants like herself. She was the president of the board of the Brockton Interfaith Coalition and has been a remendous supporter of the Brockton Nrighborhood health Center. She works as an elderly outreach worker for Catholic Charities and visits the poor elderly to bring them food, companionship and encouragement. Just before this past Christmas, Teresa got into an accident and totaled her car and she is still liable to pay off a portion aafter insurance. Deemed at fault, no one was injured but feelings desperation and anxiety set in. Teresa struggles with a mortgage on her meagre salary, has student debt for her M.A. in Theology, and now is without a car to visit her elderly clients. She wants to purchase an older used car that can get her around Brockton. That cost plus insurance and registration are significant for her. I hate to ask friends and family for financial help, but I feel it is my duty to advocate for Teresa as her connections are not the affluent, but rather vulnerable populations among us. Even a small amount will add up to help her out at this crucial time.
