Story
We are looking to help support our beloved Maddy as she and her dad adjust to life at home post major health issues and surgery. Mads has posted a more complete story dated May 28th (shared below) Her dad is now home and there are many adjustments to be made as he recovers. Maddy's aunt will be able to stay in the home to help while Maddy works during the week. We are asking for support as their family adjusts. Pre-cooked, frozen, or crock pot meals that require little to no prep/clean up. He currently cannot eat dairy, whole grains, nuts or red meat, and he also can't tolerate anything with heavy fiber yet. Chicken, fish and eggs are his friends! Gift cards for door dash are also welcome! Help with some light cleaning and yard work will also be appreciated! Other forms of support will be added as they come up! From Maddy on May 28th: Hey guys, long post time. I've been kinda quiet about it, but my dad, the strongest person I know, has been in and out of the hospital for the last almost 2 months. He's lost 40 lbs now and can barely walk. Dad was misdiagnosed back on March with diverticulitis, but all he did was get sicker and sicker. Then finally, after a colonoscopy, they found that it's actually Ulcerative Colitis, but at that point he had already lost about 25 lbs and was already visibly frail. Less than a week after the UC diagnosis, he was hospitalized the first time. Dad was in the hospital for a week and a half, then they sent him home when they deemed him stable enough with instructions to follow his GI doc's orders which we did, but nothing seemed to be working. He was in horrible pain all the time, couldn't sleep, and had no appetite. Cue May 18th, and Dad called up the stairs saying he wanted to come up and try to eat something light for dinner. He took a while after he said that, and once he finally made it upstairs he was white as a sheet and sweating. He went straight to the medicine cabinet to get out an old bottle of nitro, and said his chest was hurting terribly. After he took it, he sat down heavily at the table with his head in his hands and just tried to breath. My aunt was with us at the time, and we quickly took his BP and saw that it was super high. Yes, the pain he was in could be causing that, and Dad has such a high pain tolerance that he used to put his own shoulders back into place when they would pop out of socket. He was obviously in agony - but we couldn't rule out heart attack. We did convince dad that we needed to go back to ER. At first we were planning to drive him, but it became apparent that dad might not be able to get out of that chair. I called an ambulance. On one thankful note, it wasn't his heart. Dad's heart is literally too buff (it's an actual condition lol) but his colon had ruptured and he was becoming septic, so emergency surgery to remove the colon was next. Dad is now recovering, sans his devil colon, but it's going to be a very slow recovery. If you know him, please just keep him in your thoughts. When you go hiking, think of him or take a picture to show him later so we can motivate to go there with him again. He's struggling so much right now and is so tired, so if you can, please just send all the love and light you can. Thank you!
Special Notes
