Hi everyone, my name is Jenni. I’m Makayla’s aunt and Genee’s sister-in-law, and I’m sharing this with an incredibly heavy heart. Our family is still trying to process a devastating accident that has forever changed our lives. I’ve created a GoFundMe to help support Makayla and her family with the overwhelming financial burden they are now facing, and I’m also setting up this Meal Train to ease some of the daily stress surrounding meals during this difficult time. https://gofund.me/e11f72764 The Accident: Makayla was pumping gas when the handle malfunctioned and came out of her tank, covering her in gasoline. While driving home on Boyson Road, a spark ignited and her car caught fire. In those terrifying moments, Makayla jumped from the vehicle and rolled on the ground. Two selfless strangers stopped and helped save her life, heroes we will never be able to thank enough. Makayla suffered serious burns on the left side of her body, from her hair down to her leg, affecting approximately 16% of her body. She is currently in the ICU burn unit. Because gasoline was involved, doctors will not know the full extent of her injuries for several days. What we do know is that she faces surgeries, a lengthy hospital stay, and a long, challenging road to recovery. If you know Makayla, you know she has the biggest heart and a spirit that lights up every room. She is strong, kind, and a fighter, but no one should have to face something like this alone. As she begins this long journey toward healing, our family is doing everything we can to support her, yet the challenges ahead feel overwhelming. We are humbly asking for any help you may be able to offer, whether through pre-made meals or gift cards to help reduce the burden of daily meals and allow the family to focus on Makayla’s recovery. Whether it’s a meal, a donation, a share, or a prayer, every act of kindness means more than words can express. Thank you for surrounding Makayla and her family with love, hope, and support during the hardest time of their lives.
