Healing is A Foot

Story

Keri is heading into foot surgery on June 23 related to a lingering snowboarding injury from 2003. The procedure will address impingement and bone spurs that have become increasingly painful, and recovery will include at least two weeks of being completely non-weight-bearing, followed by a gradual return to mobility. While Keri is fortunate to have childcare support for Amara Monday through Thursday, this season will still come with a lot of logistical challenges. Driving, grocery shopping, meal preparation, dog care, household tasks, and keeping up with everyday life will all be a bit more complicated for a while. We're hoping to make this recovery period a little easier by organizing support in simple, practical ways. The main support window will begin June 23 and continue through early August. The first 2–3 weeks will likely be the time of greatest need, with support tapering as healing progresses. And, because apparently we're really committing to this theme, there is a decent chance a hip surgery may be joining the party sometime within the next 6–8 months. Stay tuned for Season Two. Keri has spent years enthusiastically collecting orthopedic adventures through snowboarding, aerial arts, yoga, motherhood, and a general commitment to living life at full volume. This foot surgery is simply the first item on the repair list. This page can be used in a few different ways. If you'd like to help with a practical task, please scroll down to the Care Calendar to sign up for something specific. Some helpful ways to support include: • gluten-free meal drop-offs • rides to appointments • grocery or pharmacy runs • dog walks or help with Enzo • spending time with Amara • porch drop-offs of supplies, snacks, or household essentials • short visits, check-ins, or companionship If taking on a calendar task isn't the easiest fit, support through gift cards or donations is also deeply appreciated. Grocery stores, takeout, meal delivery, coffee, gas, and everyday essentials can all make recovery a little smoother. Financial support can also help offset transportation costs, childcare gaps, and the many unexpected expenses that tend to arise during healing. For anyone new to Give In Kind, the most important thing to know is that the Care Calendar is located below the main page information, and that's where you can sign up for specific forms of support. Please keep things simple, flexible, and low-pressure. Ordinary help is perfect. A meal, a dog walk, a ride, a grocery run, or an hour spent with Amara can make an enormous difference. Thank you for helping Keri feel supported, cared for, and surrounded by community during this chapter of healing.
