Story
The idea for the Strong Like AK House in Belmont began with a simple but powerful dream—to create a second home away from home for families traveling for pediatric cancer care. That dream became reality when South Point Baptist Church opened their doors and hearts, offering a space we could transform into a sanctuary of rest and relief. With the help of our community, we filled the house with love—from beds and linens to pots, pans, and prayers. On June 17, 2025, the house welcomed its very first family: 13-year-old young man and his loved ones, who made the journey from Marion, NC so he could receive proton radiation therapy at Levine Children’s Hospital. Now, instead of long nights in a hotel or worrying about rising costs, they have a quiet place to rest, cook a meal, and simply be together. This house is more than a roof and walls—it’s a reflection of Adam’s legacy, a space built with compassion and hope, and a promise to every family who walks through the door: You’re not alone. We are just getting started in Belmont, and we are so grateful to all who have helped make this house a reality.
