Supporting the Hulst Family

W
Story

On Wednesday, July 22, Gregg went to the ER, beginning a journey none of us ever expected. Testing revealed a large mass in his chest, and after weeks of scans, a biopsy, and an incredibly difficult wait for answers, Gregg and Kristi received the news that the mass is cancer. Gregg has been diagnosed with **thymic squamous cell carcinoma**, an extremely rare cancer that develops in the thymus gland in the chest. Because of the rarity of his diagnosis, Gregg and Kristi are now meeting with his oncology team and pursuing opinions from specialists who have experience treating this type of cancer. There are still many questions to be answered and decisions to be made as they determine the best treatment plan moving forward. Through all of this, Gregg continues to feel well and remains his usual strong, positive self — even finding ways to bring his sense of humor into some of the hardest moments. Gregg and Kristi are navigating all of this while loving and caring for their four boys, **Hudsen, Garner, Ezra, and Saunder**. As you can imagine, the uncertainty and emotions that come with a diagnosis like this are a lot for their entire family to carry. We created this page to surround the Hulst family with love and support in the weeks and months ahead. As their needs become clearer, we'll use this page to coordinate meals and other practical ways we can help lighten their load. Most importantly, **please continue to pray** — for Gregg's healing, for wisdom for his doctors, for peace and strength for Gregg and Kristi, and for their four boys as they walk through this together. As Kristi has shared, God's plans don't always line up with ours, but they are clinging to their faith and trusting Him through all of the unknowns. Thank you for loving Gregg, Kristi, Hudsen, Garner, Ezra, and Saunder so well. Your prayers, messages, meals, and support mean more to them than you know. 🤍 Please leave your favorite Bible verse or song in the messages to encourage them.
