I have always been relentless about getting my yearly mammograms- without fail! On June 4th, I went in for what I thought was going to be a routine exam. However, thanks to my primary care physician (PCP), Dr. Betsy Brais' concern, she requested an ultrasound of my right breast. The ultrasound on July 6th revealed an enlarged lymph-node, which triggered a biopsy of the enlarged lymph-node. The biopsy was performed on July 14th and the results hit my chart on July 15th, 2 days before I was to meet with the Nurse Navigator. The pathology results read, "Metastatic ductal carcinoma"- it showed positive for Estrogen Receptor (ER), Progesterone Receptor (PgR), AND HER2 positive- the trifecta of breast cancer. Since receiving the time urgent diagnosis, I have met with the oncologist, oncology surgeon, 2-Ultrasounds, genetics testing, 2-MRIs, 2-biopsies, chemo port inserted, and the 1st of 6 chemo treatments scheduled. While this all has been overwhelming at times, I am optimistic about overcoming this intruder in my body being evicted! The enemy may have attacked my body but he WON'T take my life!
