My Wife, Megan, and I welcomed Charlotte, aka Charlie, into the world at 4:13pm October 4th, 2025, and oh, what a welcome it was. We were expecting our first child to arrive mid November for as long as we've planned for her, but Friday, just before noon, I got the most chilling text I've ever received. It was only three words: "Something is wrong" She was bleeding a lot, and had texted me before calling her doctor, who advised her to come to the emergency department immediately. I left work, and got her there as soon as I was able, traffic laws be damned. It wasn't long before there were a lot more medical professionals in the room than I would have expected for a routine issue. We were already scared, but now we were beginning to panic. They administered medication immediately, 5 minutes went by (quickly) then more medication. They told us they need to give us a shot for baby's lungs, without it she might not be able to breathe without intubation. They tell us we might be meeting baby in the next few hours. They said that her blood pressure was in the range of hypertensive crisis, high enough to begin causing damage to herself or the baby, which is why they were aggressively trying to get it back down under control. They were successful for the moment, and we were admitted without having to deliver the baby that day. It is thought that her high blood pressure caused the placenta to separate from the uterine wall slightly, which caused her initial bleeding. Without this warning sign, we may not have known that Megan's life was in danger. She was diagnosed with pre-eclampsia, which can injure or kill the baby and/or mother if left untreated, and the only treatment for pre-eclampsia is delivering the baby. Hospital staff were, however, able to control Megan's blood pressure with medication, so we were told to "stay pregnant" for as long as as were able. We woke up the next day in the hospital, and they gave Megan the second steroid shot for baby's lungs. Her blood pressure was okay, not great, with all the medication, but they were seeing some arrhythmia with baby, so they performed a wellness test on the baby. They were worried that the damaged placenta wouldn't be enough to keep baby girl healthy much longer, and so the decision was made to deliver Charlotte Kay Olejniczak that day, 10/4/25, via emergency C-section. Megan is recovering from surgery in addition to recovering from symptoms of pre-eclampsia. This means that she is able to walk about as far as our hallway, and is on blood pressure medication to prevent dangerous hypertension. - Written by Charlotte's Dad, Alex
We are asking for support to help cover the cost of lost wages, medical bills, and associated costs. We are also asking for help keeping her fed while I return to work awaiting Charlotte's arrival at home. Any prepared foods are gladly accepted, any groceries, anything you see fit is greatly appreciated, and most things can be organized through this website. Please note that as a matter of course, Megan will not eat beef, ham, or fish, that is to say that she basically eats only chicken dishes, or vegetarian dishes. Except she'll eat a hamburger, but that's it. And she also won't eat soup. ALL soup. I know. Alex, on the other hand, has never refused food. But this isn't (primarily) about Alex. But just know, Alex will eat anything. Anything edible. Anything.
