Our beautiful Leilani is full of love for everyone, and now she needs our love! Recently, Leilani was hit by a stray basketball at school while supervising recess, which caused a concussion. The concussion, in addition to rattling her brain, triggered a cascade of other health issues with debilitating symptoms: dizziness, nausea, brain fog and confusion, eye spasms, headaches, and high blood pressure. After she saw the doctor, she reported, "My neurologist said I am healing, just slowly, and he put me on some new meds, set me up with the concussion center for rehab and physical therapy. They will need to see me on a weekly basis until I rebuild capacity. He said my ability to be at work would have to be on a day-by-day basis, with a slow increase of exposure to stimuli, and diminished responsibilities. He said the meds he prescribed, mindfulness, rest, slow return to day-to-day activity, and concussion-oriented physical therapy, will get me to a good space in time. He is positive and hopeful, so I am too." She is on a new medication to help manage the symptoms while the brain heals, but is still very dizzy, nauseated, more easily confused, her eyes spasm more frequently when watching a lot of movement, has headaches with and without loud sounds, and her blood pressure is pretty high and hard to control right now. She says, "I am definitely seeing progress and slowly increasing exposure to stimuli." All of this means that Leilani cannot leave the apartment except for medical appointments, and, in particular, cannot grocery shop. Meal prep is very hard as well. Unfortunately, she has already depleted a lot of her spare funds ordering food. This page is designed to offer emotional support and to provide physical support for our dear friend.
