Support For Meghan Rouns Family

Story

We had conducted a search for Meghan Rita Rouns who went missing while horseback riding in the McMaster Hills Recreation Area Friday October 4th. Search and Rescue units from Lewis and Clark County and Jefferson County were on the ground. Drones from various law enforcement agencies were searching by air. A helicopter from Great Falls was also called in to assist. The teamwork and support has been the absolute some of the best I’ve seen. Very proud to be working with the best we have. Special shout out to Army National Guard, Mercy flight out of Great Falls and the local community.Words cannot fully express how grateful we are for the love and support shown by our community this weekend. Your prayers, assistance, and encouragement have uplifted us during these trying times, and we are deeply touched by your compassion. We would also like to extend our sincerest thanks to the Search and Rescue teams, law enforcement officers, Army National Guard, USAF, Helena Firefighters, Mercy flight. All who have been leading this search for Meghan with such dedication and strength and several individuals who brought food in for the search and rescue teams. Your tireless efforts are a true testament to your professionalism and loving support, and we are forever grateful for your continued support and dedication. To everyone who has offered a helping hand or a kind word—thank you. It is with great sadness we report that Meghan was located by our search and rescue divers around 3:40 pm on October 8th. She is deceased. She was located in 11 feet of water in the Missouri River, about 100 feet from shore. Meghan’s family wish to thank all of you who helped search for her. You held out for hope and gave them comfort that they were not alone in this ordeal. Some of you knew Meghan, some of you did not, but you came to help in time of need. Thank you. All monies donated will go toward injured horse riders through Equestrian Aid Foundation and to the Lewis and Clark Humane Society. There is also an account set up at any Valley Bank office in Helena for the Memorial of Meghan Rouns.

Special Notes

Meghan’s Burial will be Thursday, October 17. All who are wishing to ride for Meghan we will be meeting at the Lewis and Clark County Fairgrounds at 1:00pm to take her to the VA cemetery at Fort Harrison. We will be riding up Henderson to the traffic light then to Country Club Ave out to Fort Harrison. Please wear Royal Blue or White as that was her favorite color. You are welcome to tie royal blue or white ribbon in your horses mane and tail. Due to the overwhelming response of riders all over the state, we don't have a final count on riders. We do not know how much room we will have at the cemetery we ask everyone be courteous and respectful and not crowd each other or the procession. Even if we have good horses there will be a lot going on and we don't want any wrecks or accidents. Please keep adequate space and be aware of the person next to, behind, and in front of you. When we get to the cemetery let's all get off and hold our horses to minimize potential prancing and/or issues.
