Hello, my name is Priscilla.** I am a recently single mother of two who left a 16-year marriage due to domestic violence. I finally found the courage to leave for the safety of my children, ages 13 and 10, and for my own safety as well. Since leaving, we have been staying in hotels, and it has been incredibly difficult. I am working, but the costs related to the divorce, custody issues, and paying alimony have put me in a very hard financial position. I’ve reached out to more than 70 organizations — churches, charities, foundations, and community programs — and none have been able to help, often because I have a full-time job or because of my son’s age. I don’t qualify for county assistance, even though we are at risk. Right now, I need to secure a room to avoid losing my children to CPS. The idea of being separated from them is devastating and unfair. I am doing everything I can to keep my kids safe, stay employed, and rebuild our lives. We just need a little help so we are not sleeping outside or torn apart. I have no family support, and very few friends left because of the isolation I experienced in my marriage. I am reaching out with my whole heart, hoping for kindness and assistance during this extremely difficult time. Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for any help you can offer.
