This is by far the hardest message I’ve ever had to write. On June 30,2026 , I found out that I have breast cancer. This is the beginning of an emotional season for me, and I’m still processing everything. Right now, I’m asking that you please keep this private. I will share publicly when the time is right, but for now, I’m trusting this information with those closest to me. My mother is a breast cancer survivor, and her journey has shown me that God is real and that faith will carry me, just as it has carried my family through difficult seasons before. I believe with all my heart that He has not brought me this far to leave me. I’ve been incredibly blessed to play basketball throughout high school and college, become a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, earn my Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral degrees, and continue growing into the woman God has called me to be. Alongside my amazing husband, we’ve built a beautiful life together and are raising two incredible children. While I didn’t choose this journey, I know I won’t have to walk it alone. I have God, my family, and my friends beside me every step of the way. More than anything, I’m asking for your prayers for my strength, my healing, my peace, and for my family as they help carry me through this season. Your love, support, and encouragement will mean the world to us. I will begin chemotherapy on July 22 and will undergo treatment for the next six months. Following chemotherapy, I will have surgery in January and then continue treatment with HER2targeted therapy. I know the road ahead won’t be easy, but I’m trusting God and taking it one step at a time. As you can imagine, the costs associated with treatment, surgery, and ongoing medical care are significant with insurance. If you feel led to support my family during this season, we would be incredibly grateful. Every act of kindness whether through a message, a gift, or another form of support reminds us that we are not walking this journey alone. Our family’s theme for this season is “Love Lifts Lakira.” We truly believe that God’s love, reflected through each of you, will carry us through the days ahead. Thank you for loving me, praying for me, and honoring my request for privacy during this time. I love you all, and I know that with God’s grace, I will get through this one day at a time. Love always, Lakira #LAKIRA STRONG #LAKIRA GOT THIS #LOVE LIFTS LAKIRA
