Why We Created This Support Page We’re creating this support page during a very emotional and unexpected season for our family. Our second-born son was recently born prematurely and is currently in the NICU at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital. He’ll be there for some time as he works to strengthen his lungs and eventually take full feeds by mouth. Due to complications, I had to deliver via an unexpected C-section and am still in the hospital myself. I’m expected to be discharged later this week, but I won’t be able to help with meals or much else for a while as I recover. In order to be close to our son in the NICU and still care for and spend time with our toddler, our family has temporarily moved in with my family in ADA. They have graciously opened their home so we can avoid the long daily drives from Lakeview to Grand Rapids and be present for both of our children during this time. With so much of our focus on hospital visits, recovery, and parenting through this season, the most helpful way to support us right now is providing dinner meals for everyone in the household—4 adults, 2 teenagers, and 1 toddler. We’ll update this page on a weekly basis as our situation shifts. We don’t yet know how long our son will be in the NICU or how long we’ll be staying at my mom’s house, but we will keep this page current each week with any ongoing or changing support needs.
