Supporting the Mamas & Babies in Tutu (Ghana)

Story

🙋🏾‍♀️Akwaaba! My name is Cheretta, and I’m a doula in Ghana 🇬🇭, West Africa. I started this page to bring more support and awareness to the mamas, babies, and community health nurses in Tutu, which is a semi-rural town in Ghana’s Eastern Region, about 15 minutes away from where I live. Several times a month, I volunteer at Tutu’s Community-Based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) Clinic, and am offering support to the nursing and midwifery team as they care for the most vulnerable mamas in the town who are expecting. I have been given permission by Tutu’s Queen Mother to provide doula support in this community. Below are three of the mamas who will be delivering soon: 🤰🏾Diana A. is 24 years old with 3 kids and one on the way. All of the children are malnourished. Baby is presenting breech and we are working with her to get baby head down. 🤰🏾Agnes A. needs funds for medications (she is Hep B positive and needs meds before delivery)....EDD Dec. 24. 🤰🏾Amma is mentally challenged and on her 6th baby. Husband is also challenged and all children are malnourished. To support these mamas and so many others in the community, the clinic also needs several basic supplies including: - 🌡️thermometers - ⚖️toddler scale - ⚖️adult scale - ⚕️blood pressure cuffs - 🫀fetal dopplers - 🧤medical gloves (of all sizes) - 🩹gauze - 💭cotton - 🚼birth kits - 💊funds to support the birthing mamas with getting their labs, scans, and medications + food …and larger items like an updated clinic sign, a facility laptop 💻 , and more! Every little bit of support makes a difference in this community, and I am grateful! 🙏🏽

Special Notes

More about me: My name is Cheretta “MotherNurture” Bradby, and I am a mother, doula, dancer, and fitness/yoga instructor originally from North Carolina. Alongside my husband Adam, I repatriated to Ghana in 2023 seeking better lives for our 2 homeschooled children and to contribute our collective skills to the growth of the motherland. Since 2017, I have supported several moms in need through my doula work, regardless of their ability to pay. This work has carried on here in Ghana, as I wish to work in the bush to assist the moms who can’t get to a hospital but still need proper care to prevent maternal and infant mortality. I provide doula services to expecting and postpartum mamas (including placenta encapsulation) as part of an emerging birthworker collective in Ghana.
