Otherwise, check back for frequent updates on Miles and family! Kelsey was in Savannah, Georgia, for a work trip when she woke up early in the morning with irregular bleeding. After taking an Uber to the emergency room, the baby’s heart rate kept dropping, and doctors discovered that Kelsey had a partially detached placenta and that Miles needed to be delivered by emergency c-section. Kelsey’s friend Melissa, who was on the work trip as well, made it just in time to support Kelsey in the OR during the delivery. Thanks to the quick work of the doctors, Miles was born at 7:37 a.m. on September 14 at just 25 weeks, weighing 1 lb 4 oz. Miles was quickly transferred to a nearby hospital to be admitted to the NICU while Kelsey went into recovery from surgery. Melissa was able to keep an eye on Miles during his transfer and admission and provided updates to Kelsey and the family. Kelsey remained incredibly strong and brave through the rest of that day until David and her dad could fly to Georgia that evening to support and care for her. One reunited, Kelsey and David were able to give baby boy a name, Miles, for being born miles from home. David was finally able to meet his baby boy for the first time in the NICU later that evening. Nine hours after birth, Miles was taken off his ventilator and moved to a CPAP machine, and he also received a blood transfusion. His condition has remained stable, and he is a strong little warrior. On September 15, Kelsey was transferred to the same hospital as Miles and was finally able to hold her baby for the first time, about 34 hours after he was born. Kelsey and David’s home base is in Waukesha, Wisconsin, so they are a long way from home while facing so many ongoing questions in Savannah. They have thankfully been accepted to stay at the Ronald McDonald House, but there are still many unknowns ahead. Kelsey is still recovering in the hospital, and Miles remains in the NICU. He is estimated to stay there until his original due date in December, so these needs will continue for months, not just days. The funds raised will help cover ongoing medical expenses, travel costs, and NICU bills to start while Kelsey, David, and Miles remain far from home. Recurring donations would provide steady support through the months ahead as Miles continues his NICU stay, and one-time gifts or shares of this fundraiser would also mean so much.
