My sweet baby, Kaylen, is a true warrior. At just 6 months old, she has already faced more challenges than most people do in a lifetime. Born with a congenital heart defect called Transposition of the Great Arteries (TGA) Kaylen's main arteries were switched. This meant her body wasn't getting the oxygen-rich blood it needed to survive In a normal heart, the pulmonary artery carries blood from the heart to the lungs, and the aorta carries blood from the heart to the rest of the body. • In d-TGA, these two major arteries are switched (transposed): • The aorta comes off the right ventricle (where it shouldn’t). • The pulmonary artery comes off the left ventricle (where it shouldn’t). • Because of this, oxygen-poor blood keeps circulating through the body instead of going to the lungs to pick up oxygen, and oxygen-rich blood keeps cycling through the lungs. • Without surgical intervention, babies with d-TGA cannot survive long after birth!! • It occurs in about 20–30 out of every 100,000 live births. • That’s roughly 1 in every 3,500–5,000 babies.. Just four days after she was born, my tiny, precious girl underwent her first open-heart surgery. We had complications, and there were scary moments, but Kaylen's fighting spirit shined through. She fought the odds and showed us all just how strong she is. Now, at six months, she is the sweetest, brightest little girl you could ever hope to meet. She's a ray of sunshine in our lives, full of smiles and a spirit that fills the room. But our journey isn't over yet. Kaylen will need three more procedures to replace the stents in her SVC vessel The Main Vessel That Pumps Blood To The heart. As her 18-year-old mom, all I want is to give her the best life possible, and I am committed to finishing my own schooling to do just that. Every day, Kaylen inspires me with her strength and resilience. She is the reason I fight, and I'm asking for your help to ensure she gets the medical care she needs to keep fighting. Any donation, no matter how small, will help us with her journey and give my daughter the chance to live the full, healthy life she deserves. Thank you for being a part of our story and for helping my little fighter.
