I’m reaching out because I never imagined I would find myself in this situation. I live in Arizona and traveled to Washington for what was supposed to be a one-week visit. My return flight was scheduled for June 17, but on June 16, the day before I was supposed to fly home, I suffered a life-threatening medical emergency. I developed four major blood clots in my lungs and one large clot in my heart. I stopped breathing for approximately 10 minutes. After a second team of paramedics arrived and performed CPR and other lifesaving measures, they were able to get me breathing again. I didn’t wake up until June 19, completely confused. I had no idea where I was, what had happened, how long I’d been in the hospital, or even how I got there. I couldn’t remember anyone’s phone numbers, and none of my belongings were with me. I was discharged from the hospital on June 23. When I asked for my clothes, I learned they had been cut off during the emergency efforts to save my life. Along with missing my flight home, I lost all my belongings I had brought with me. Since leaving the hospital, I’ve been staying on someone’s couch while trying to figure out how to get back to Arizona. This has been an incredibly difficult and overwhelming experience, especially while recovering from such a serious medical event. I’m asking for help to cover the costs of getting back home and replacing the basic necessities I lost during this emergency. Any contribution, no matter the amount, will make a difference. If you’re not able to donate, simply sharing my story would mean so much. Thank you for taking the time to read this and for any support you can give. Your kindness and generosity mean more than I can express. With gratitude, Brittani D.
