Help Stephanie Begin Her Dialysis/Surgery Journey with Strength

Richmond, VA

Story

After over a year of stable kidney function, lupus has caused Stephanie transplanted kidney to decline. Following a recent infection, her creatinine is now 8 and GFR 6. On 9/11, she was told she would need dialysis. She chose peritoneal dialysis (PD) so she can do treatments at home, and had her catheter surgery on 9/20. She will begin dialysis on 10/13. How You Can Help: We are so thankful for the love, check-ins, and support from friends and family. Many of you have asked how you can help during this new chapter. We created this page to share updates and make it easier for anyone who’d like to support. We have the date starting for 9/29 to 10/27. The biggest need will be after she begins dialysis (from 10/13 to 10/27), as she will be on FMLA and not having short-term disability insurance. Help with meals, encouragement, or donations of any kind would mean so much during this time of transition. Update note 9/6/25: Thank you everyone so so much from the bottom of our hearts who’ve helped us during this time. All the slots we requested for help with food were quickly taken and were so grateful to everyone. Donations that continue to come through Venmo and gift cards have been super helpful as well to help buy groceries and supplies that Stephanie will need. Thank you all so much!

Special Notes

Starting on 10/13, Steph will need to stick to a Renal Diet and online there are recipes that can help with that. I’ll include a picture of what she has to limit on certain food. Currently the diet with consist of low sodium and low phosphorus. She’s able to eat potassium. However, she’s able to have cheat days too.
