Hi friends, family, and extended internet aunts and uncles! As many of you know, my sweet boy, Simon, was diagnosed with Autism at the age of 4. While talking to a friend (who is also a single mom and caregiver for her child) about the never-ending challenges, she encouraged me to start seeking help in a real way through Give in Kind. The truth is, I need help all the time. Simon needs more than I have to give daily, and reaching out for help is hard to do for several reasons: - Everyone is going through something, and I never want to make it seem like my challenges are more important than others. - There is a lack of knowledge and awareness about Autism and the many ways it can wreak havoc on daily routines, mental health, and finances. A recent example: Simon and his big brother, Noah, returned to school at the beginning of August. There was a shortage of special needs bus drivers, so I arrived late to work and left early every day until Simon was placed on a bus route. It took an entire month to secure his transportation to school. I had to beg to keep my job, and, of course, I am doing my best to catch up on a few bills. There are many days you can't possibly prepare for. You never know what the next day will hold, and somehow you have to find a way to make room for it all and quickly. The overstimulation, the meltdowns, and being called from the school to pick him up on tough days. So, after 12 years of doing it solo with very little help in the capacity that's truly needed, I created this page to welcome support at all times, whenever you're able to give, and with multiple options to give in a way most comfortable for you. Simon, Noah, and I appreciate your support. For those who have contributed in any way over the years, thank you so much! Feel free to share this link and reach out to me with any questions you may have.
