Love for Kisela

Tacoma, WA

W
Story

I have been friends with Kisela for 29 years! How is that even possible? We met at Stadium and were roommates at UW freshman and junior year. So many laughs and adventures we have shared! I could not believe my ears when I learned my longtime bestie had breast cancer. She is way too young to be going through this! It feels unfair that Kisela was dealt this difficult hand, but she is going on this journey with strength and positivity. I want her to know she has support and love all around her! Tomorrow (5/27) is her surgery, so let's shower her with love during her recovery and help her on her way to restoring her health. The diagnosis details: On March 31 Kisela learned she had breast cancer. She was devastated, shocked, and filled with sadness, fear, and uncertainty. Fortunately, it was caught early: Cancer stage 1 right breast invasive ductal carcinoma. They say her cancer could have been growing for the past 5 years but was only palpable maybe in the last year. Only after the mammogram did she feel pain and after doing a self-exam she felt the mass. Tomorrow, she goes in for surgery to remove the two masses. Then after 6 weeks, she will start 6 weeks of radiation. Kisela wants to remind all women get that first mammogram at 40 and both men and woman should do monthly self-breast exams.
