Caring for the Broderson Family

Bettendorf, IA

Story

Im starting this because this is my Husband's story ... As many of you know my cancer resurfaced last fall now as stage 4 melanoma of my lungs. Over the past several months it’s has exploded with progression in size and number of tumors in my lungs and the biggest one is pushing against my heart. 3 months ago it was discovered that I now have bone cancer as well starting with my left hip. I have been in extreme pain especially this past month or so. I spoke with my Doctor and he requested an emergency CT scan. The scan certainly explained why I have been hurting so bad. Bone cancer has spread to my spine, causing my T 12 vertebra to fracture, left rib and right hip. My right hip is so bad that I’m at high risk for it breaking at anytime. This has slowed me down significantly where now I need help getting in and out of bed, standing up, getting dressed, etc and where I’m in constant pain or discomfort 24 hours a day. I have been prescribed some of the highest level of pain medication and it still is not working whatsoever. I’ve been strong and always a go getter my whole life, so this is something that is not only difficult for me but for my family to witness on a daily basis now. Keli my wife didn’t plan on being a caregiver of her husband in her 40’s and our young children at 9 and 10 years old have helped out with what they can as well. I hurts me more that they are witnessing this at such a young age. It’s very difficult to ask for help, but depending how things transpire in the near future I think it’s time. I’m not sure what they can do to make me not feel the pain so much and hopefully increase my mobility. I have been and will continue to fight like hell as long as I can .
