We are asking our family, friends, and community to consider making a donation toward medical equipment for Liam—a P Pod Chair from Adaptive Mall. Liam has a rare genetic disorder called TBCK-related neurodevelopmental disorder (TBCK). TBCK is a lifelong genetic condition that affects the nervous and muscular systems. Liam lives with severe hypotonia, which means he has very low muscle tone and significant difficulty supporting his own body and maintaining a sitting or standing position. He also has seizures and significant developmental and physical limitations. Liam is unable to sit or stand independently and is completely dependent on his wheelchair and caregivers for positioning and mobility. His wheelchair is extremely important to us and gives him the ability to get around, but it isn't designed to be where he spends the entire day. After being in it for an extended period, he becomes uncomfortable, and there are very limited places where we can safely position him outside of his bed. ❤️ That's where this chair comes in. The P Pod Chair would give Liam another supportive seating option in our home. Our hope is that it would allow him to spend more time out of bed and comfortably in the living room with his family, rather than spending so much of his day in his bed or becoming uncomfortable in his wheelchair. For a child who cannot simply get up, walk around, move from one chair to another, or reposition himself when he becomes uncomfortable, having appropriate supportive equipment is incredibly important. This isn't something we're asking for because it's a luxury or because we want something “nice” for Liam. It's medical equipment that would give him another safe and supportive way to sit, participate in family life, and be comfortable in his own home. Unfortunately, we have already tried going through insurance, and the equipment is not being covered, leaving us responsible for the cost ourselves. 💙 What We're Raising Money For The P Pod Chair and necessary accessories currently total $2,804.85. Here is the current cost breakdown: P Pod Chair – Large: $2,149.00 P Pod Foot Bolster: $335.95 P Pod Lateral Bolster: $155.95 Chest Harness – Medium: $163.95 Total: $2,804.85 These aren't additional items we're purchasing just for convenience. The accessories are part of what we need to create a supportive seating setup that is appropriate for Liam's needs. Medical equipment like this can become incredibly expensive very quickly, especially when a child has complex medical and physical needs. As parents, these are expenses that can add up on top of everything else that comes with caring for a medically complex child. 🎂 So, for Liam's birthday this year, we're asking for help instead of gifts. If you would like to give Liam a birthday gift, any amount would mean so much to us. $5, $10, $25, $50—whatever you are comfortable giving. There is absolutely no pressure and no amount is too small. Every donation gets us one step closer to getting Liam the equipment he needs. And if you're not in a position to donate, please don't feel bad at all. TBCK is an incredibly rare condition, and living with a child who has significant physical and medical needs means constantly advocating for equipment, therapies, services, and accommodations that many families never have to think about. We don't expect anyone to understand everything that comes with Liam's diagnosis. We simply hope you'll understand how much this piece of equipment could mean to him—and to us.
