Hello my name is Anita Benton, I’m 66 years old and I live alone. My husband & both his parents he was visiting contracted COVID around August 13, 2021 & were hospitalized. I lost my husband 9/3/21, my mother-in-law 9/7/21 & my father-in-law committed suicide 11/15/24. I lost my only sister to breast cancer 1/30/26! I was just diagnosed with breast cancer 9/3/26. I am still healing from a fall I had in my home where I fractured 3 bones in my left ankle & that surgery was 7/15/26. After my nephew brought me back home 8/10th for my post op follow up appointment, well the night he left I had blood in my stool & went to hospital. My blood level continued to drop and I had to have 2 blood transfusions in order to complete a colonoscopy & upper GI. I have in hospital 5 days was discharged and 2 days later was back in ER with bleeding again. This 2nd CT scan found a cyst on my right kidney & a mass in my left breast. I immediately scheduled a mammogram, then a biopsy was required which came the diagnosis of breast cancer. These past 5 years have been challenging for me! I have opted to have a double mastectomy which is scheduled for 10/29/2026. I’m trying to lighten my load finding ways to provide meals for myself since I live alone.
