Katie Allen Support Group/Meal Train

Redlands, CA

Story

This is the beginning of a longer journey for Katie Allen and her loved ones. She is here in Redlands, CA with her beloved husband Mike and snuggle bug Ivy, their rescue pit bull. On October 29th, she shared the following on social media: “I don't know how to share an update like this except to just do it, but I learned 2 weeks ago that I have stage 4 ovarian cancer. [*which has since been updated to cervical cancer] Two days later, I was in the ER. The next day, I had surgery: a hysterectomy and oophorectomy and more but I'm too tired to look up all the words again. As far as I know, it's also in my liver, kidney, bowels, pelvic wall... I'm supposed to get biopsy results back by today to know the cancer subtype that'll determine what treatment options I have, which will take place at City of Hope starting in a couple weeks. There's a lot more to say, but I can't find all the words right now. But here's one thing I know: my friends and family and support from my husband have been the ultimate medicine so far. In fact, I had this thought the other day that if love were enough to save me, all that I have received in the past weeks alone would be enough to do so ten times over. I'd love to hear from you if we haven't connected in a while. I'd love to ask for your stories and advice and resources to help us navigate this. I'd love to know what books or movies or other companions you know of that might help in such times. I'd love for you to send me a letter telling me about how you've been. I'd love for you to pause today in the middle of your busy life and look up at the sky and take three deep breaths. May you all be well, safe, happy, and peace-filled. Love, Katie” You can also follow her journey on Substack (or Facebook or Instagram) where she's posting updates not found here: https://www.substack.com/@katieallen0 There are a lot of people who Katie has touched in their lives, myself included, with her zest for life and willingness to not only push herself to become a better writer (and person) but also the people around her. Let’s come together and show what a community can do in a time of crisis. /Siw Heede
